Online casino rules in Ontario

Shorelines Casino Belleville is a building at 380 Bell Boulevard, not a website. Online play in Ontario has its own rules, set out below.

The regulated online market

Ontario has a regulated online casino market. A private site needs two things to operate here. First, it must be registered by the AGCO, the regulator. Second, it must have an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, known as iGO. iGO keeps a public directory of the authorized sites, and anyone can read it.

OLG.ca is separate from the private sites: it is the government-run online casino. Online play, on any of these sites, is for people 19 or older who are physically in Ontario. Physically in Ontario means the person is inside the province while playing. A site that accepts Ontario players without AGCO registration is not a legal operator in Ontario.

BetGuard for online sites

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, is iGaming Ontario's tool for opting out of online gambling. One request opts a person out of every regulated online gambling site in Ontario at once, OLG.ca included. Terms are 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom term.

BetGuard does not cover casinos people walk into, such as the one on Bell Boulevard. For those, OLG runs My PlayBreak, a self-exclusion program that bars entry to any Ontario casino. People enrol by calling the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, by asking casino staff, or at a PlaySmart Centre.

How this guide is paid

Belleville Casino Stop is an independent guide, not a casino. It takes no bets and has no accounts. Paid links appear on the home page only, each marked Ad. They are a button in the menu, a block below the first screen and a block near the end of the page. They lead to one private online casino partner, which pays the guide a commission and can change.

Readers can check any online site, this partner included, against the public iGO directory of authorized sites.
